Generosity over greed.

Abundance over scarcity.

Love over fear.

To be generous is to show a readiness to give more of something than is strictly necessary or expected.

Society today has worn us down, left us depleted, taught us a scarcity mindset. Too often, we’re prepared to give only what’s necessary and to expect little to nothing from others. This is not Jesus’ way. Following Jesus means giving and receiving radical love and generosity — not just among our CrossWalk members or believers, not just among those who live in our immediate vicinity… but generosity to and from everyone in our broader, global community.

As a church, we ask for generosity from our members in four ways: your time, your talents, your treasure and your telling.

We have three distinct ways you can contribute your “treasure” (financially): our Operating Fund, our Outreach Fund, and our Shelter in the Storms of Life Capital Campaign.

SHELTER
Capital Campaign

Improving our campus and facilities

Our SHELTER campaign has just launched! We’re thrilled to share more with you.

Every week, CrossWalk offers shelter for people in recovery, people mistreated due to their sexuality or skin tone, people seeking documentation for immigration, people evacuated due to fires, earthquakes, floods or heat, people seeking genuine community, kids in preschool, youth playing ports, and of course, people seeking to develop their spirituality.

Supporting our SHELTER campaign ensures a space where love, acceptance, healing and hope flow. Where holy works. For everyone.

Operating Fund

Resourcing the core of crosswalk

The Operating Fund is what impacts the most people through CrossWalk. By contributing to our Operating Fund, you are keeping the core of CrossWalk alive: Staff members continue serving, ministry materials are funded, utility bills get paid, our campus is kept safe and clean… even the coffee and donuts keep appearing at Sunday Services (which is obviously the most important thing).

Outreach Fund

Aiding local, national & global efforts

When you donate toward the Outreach Fund, your resources are routed to the Napa food pantry, Project Hope for Napa’s unhoused residents, the Evergreen Association supporting our sister churches, Deborah’s House providing shelter and support for women and their kids escaping domestic violence, AWAB’s support of other LGBTQ+ affirming churches, and BST that trains future ministry leaders.

Extracurriculars / How we offer shelter

We talk a lot about broad inclusion and loving the world around us, but we also walk the talk, utilizing our church campus as a tool for serving our community. Looking for affordable or free space for your non-profit? We’d be honored to talk about how we can serve your community like we serve these:

evacuation center

We are Napa County’s first-to-open and last-to-close evacuation shelter when Mother Nature calls.

Preschool

Our site is home to a local non-profit educational organization and preschool.

Home Gym

We offer our gymnasium and outdoor facilities to multiple local schools and community groups.

Recovery groups

We host over 40 non-church-affiliated recovery groups to help folks in their struggle with addiction.

SHELTER Capital Campaign

 For faith seekers, an oasis.

For evacuees, a refuge.

For the discounted and mistreated, a haven.

Intro to SHELTER

CrossWalk exists to serve the entire Napa community — not just our members.  How has CrossWalk offered SHELTER for you or someone you know?

Every week, CrossWalk offers SHELTER for people in recovery, people mistreated due to their sexuality or skin tone, people seeking documentation for immigration, people evacuated due to fires, earthquakes, floods, or heat, people seeking genuine community, kids in preschool, youth playing sports, and of course, people seeking to develop their spirituality.

In order to provide SHELTER for generations to come, CrossWalk needs to make repairs to our flat roofs and parking lot. To provide more inspiring SHELTER, CrossWalk needs to make improvements in the Sanctuary, Children’s Wing, and Courtyard.

Can you help us provide SHELTER for current and future Napans by generously supporting these projects?

Types of SHELTER

Shelter at CrossWalk means many different things to many different people:

  • For people seeking faith that makes sense with life and science, we offer OASIS.

  • For people who have immigrated trying to live and work without fear of intimidation or arrest, we offer SANCTUARY where legal documentation can be pursued.

  • For people evacuated by fires, earthquakes, and storms, we offer REFUGE.

  • For people who are discounted and mistreated due to their sexuality or race, we offer safe,  welcoming and affirming HAVEN.

  • For people seeking recovery, we offer SAFE SPACE for healing.

  • For people simply looking for good people to hang with as cultural storms rage, we offer harmonious HARBOR.

CrossWalk provides SHELTER — each of the above and more — where love, acceptance, healing, and hope flow.  Holy work. For everybody.

By the Numbers

HUNDREDS of people flow in and out of CrossWalk’s campus EVERY DAY, enjoying SHELTER for their children attending preschool, for their youth engaged in sports using the gym, adults seeking recovery of various kinds, nonprofit leaders and staff meeting to better serve Napa, and people attending church-specific functions.

Raise the Roof

Phase 1 Projects

Flat Roofs Repaired ($200,000). For many years we have done our best to buy time with band-aid patchwork repairs. To protect our capacity to shelter, we must now permanently address the flat roofs over our Administration and Education Wings. We will be applying a long-lasting “foam” product that will be watertight and add significant insulation.

Anchor Musician First Year Stipend ($12,000). We would love to build a new band around an “anchor” musician who can play keys and/or guitar and can sing. We will add our own vocalists and instrumentalists to the mix.

Improve Sanctuary Ceiling ($5,000). Dated and water-stained, it’s time to upgrade our sanctuary ceiling’s appearance and acoustic performance.

New KidsCrossing Room ($5,000). Our Children’s Ministry is growing! We will soon need to expand our space, requiring remodeling to make it awesome for kids to attend.

Sanctuary Walls “Plastered” ($30,000). While we are grateful for Baselite bricks, they aren’t the most attractive...  We hope to “smooth” the walls like we have done in our Fireside Room, making it much more beautiful, comforting and inspiring.

Pave the Way

Phase 2 Projects

Parking Lot Repair/Replace ($500,000). Parts of our parking lot can be fixed with new overlay, but a lot of areas need to be completely redone. As we renew the space, we hope to beautify the parking lot with trees and landscaping. Please also contact us if you know of resources for donated labor and materials or any sustainable, earth-friendly options and grants to pay for them!

Sanctuary Flooring ($30,000). As much as everyone loves the divots and inconsistent color patterns, it’s time for a floor facelift! We will select something beautiful, easy to keep clean, and durable.

Campus Entrance Art Installation ($30,000).  We plan to create an amazing installation that draws people into our campus, utilizing an artistic feature beyond a simple sign at our property’s edge.

On-Campus Signage ($5,000). Most people are surprised how large our campus is. Sometimes they only discover it by getting lost! Directional signs in key areas around the campus will help everyone find their way to the space they need to be.

Pray & Pledge

Above all, PRAY. May the Spirit’s call to help be honored by many. Reflect on what this means for you. Share what we’re doing with others — you never know who God will invite and how they might respond. Someone may have connections or skills or resources that will really help. What is God inviting you to do?

One-time donation.  We gladly accept cash, checks, debit and credit cards. Generous gifts of any amount are deeply appreciated! Please use our Realm software!

Monthly contribution pledge. Want to support the campaign over time to enable a potentially larger contribution? How about making a monthly commitment for the duration of the campaign? Do this on your own, through your bank, or using our Realm giving platform.

Securities (stocks, bonds, etc.). CrossWalk has benefitted greatly from generous contributors who have transferred stock to the church. The church gets the full value, yet the donor doesn’t get hit with capital gains taxes associated with cashing out first — a great win-win!

IRA Distributions. If you're over 70.5, consider making a qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA. QCDs can be used to meet your RMD, and as long as the funds are transferred directly to CrossWalk, the dollar amount of the gift may be excluded from your taxable income, which is even more beneficial than a tax deduction!

Property (real estate, car, boat, private jet, cryptocurrency). Got some assets you’d like to put toward this project? We would love to take those off your hands!

Garage sale or bake sale proceeds. Ready to sell all that stuff in your house you no longer need or want? Or are you a baking genius? Donating all or part of the proceeds from selling stuff is a great way to support the campaign.

Estate planning. Perhaps you don’t have a lot of cash on hand, but your estate has value. For many people, the biggest gift they make is through their estate. Would you consider including CrossWalk in your plans?

Walk-a-thon. Want to get more than bragging rights for all your steps? How about raising some awareness and financial support from friends and family at CrossWalk’s walk-a-thon? Stay tuned for more information.

Silent Auction. Sometimes getting is giving! Get some cool stuff at CrossWalk’s silent auction and benefit the campaign! Got some great stuff to donate? We’ll take that, too!

Summer Festival. Do you like good music, yummy food, and a place to chill with friends?  Get your tickets and come to CrossWalk’s summer festival! Stay tuned for more information.

Ways to be generous

You can practice generosity in four specific ways: through your time, talents, treasure and telling.

Why do we give to charities? What motivates us? What does faith compel us to do? Check out these videos for some thoughts.

Be generous with your time

Time

First, prioritize coming to worship and being a part of this community. Your presence truly is a present to all of those you grace with it… and that includes CrossWalk and our members. Second, lend us assistance setting up, breaking down, hosting events, and so on. We always need extra hands!

Be generous with your talents

talents

God gave you unique gifts, talents, and perspectives that can make a positive impact on our world. Some of your unique talents can be used within the walls of the church, and many more can be used to make a difference beyond. How are you using yours to be an agent of God’s redemption in the world?

Be generous with your treasure

Treasure

Yes, like every organization, we need money to make it all work. CrossWalk does not receive outside funding from an overarching “central church headquarters”; we do all we can with members’ financial generosity. How much should you give? Well, that depends. Some of us barely keep the bills paid. Generosity for those households looks very different than for those of us currently in a position to do much more. God calls us to be generous as a practical expression of our faith; we ask that our members routinely and prayerfully consider what generosity looks like for their household.

Be generous with your telling

Telling

It’s not our style to hand out tracts, put up lawn signs, or take turns preaching from a soapbox... but we do want you to love people well in the world you live in. You are CrossWalk’s — and Christ’s! — greatest form of advertising. Be secretly incredible. Make others wonder what makes you tick. When it seems appropriate, encourage folks to check out CrossWalk. Let people know what this community offers and what you’ve found here; others might also be looking for exactly that kind of hope, support, grace and love.
